The number of foreign-born workers in the U.S. has plummeted by over 1 million since March, indicating that the Trump administration’s America First priorities are affecting the job market.
The foreign-born labor force was 33.719 million in March, according to a report on St. Louis Fed data by Just the News. The number of foreign-born workers dropped to 32.706 million last month.
Just the News reported that the overall labor force was 170.653 million in March and dropped to 170.216 million last month, a loss of 0.437 million workers.
The U.S. added over 139,000 jobs for American workers in May. According to the White House, all job gains since President Donald Trump took office for a second time have gone to native-born American workers.
“President Trump’s America First Economic Agenda has created a BOOMING economy – jobs are up, unemployment is down, wages are increasing, and inflation is dead,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said. “More than 139,000 good jobs were added to the private sector in May, all accounted for by American-born workers. Americans should continue to trust in President Trump, who continues to beat expectations.”
Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Steve Miran told Fox News: “The President is succeeding in creating hundreds of thousands of jobs since he came into office… and they’re all going to native-born Americans.”
E.J. Antoni, PhD, chief economist at the Heritage Foundation, said there’s still more work to be done to fix the country’s labor market.
“Jobs for foreign-born workers have long been back to their pre-pandemic trend and are up 3.9 million from 6 years ago while native-born American employment is up just 2.3 million and is still many millions more below its pre-pandemic trend,” he said in a post on X. “Long way to go to fix the labor market.”
