‘Worst of the worst’ convicted of violent and child sex offenses

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced the arrests of additional criminal illegal aliens across the country, including individuals convicted of aggravated sexual assault, lewd acts with a child, attempted murder and child pornography offenses.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, the arrests came during National Crime Victims Week as federal officials highlighted enforcement actions targeting individuals identified as public safety threats. Officials said those taken into custody include offenders convicted of sexual crimes, violent assaults and narcotics-related offenses.

Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said the Department of Homeland Security continues efforts centered on victims of crimes connected to illegal immigration.

“During National Crime Victims Week, DHS is continuing its work to fight for justice for victims of illegal alien crime. By removing criminal illegal aliens from our communities, ICE is stopping them before they can perpetrate more crimes and create more victims,” Bis said. “Just yesterday, ICE arrested pedophiles, rapists, and drug traffickers.”

In a separate statement, Bis said recent arrests also included individuals convicted of murder, sexual abuse, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and attempted methamphetamine trafficking.

“During National Crime Victims Week, DHS is continuing its work to fight for justice for victims of illegal alien crime by removing criminal illegal aliens from our communities before they can perpetrate more crimes and create more victims,” Bis said. “Just yesterday, ICE arrested murderers, sexual predators, violent assailants, and drug traffickers.”

Bis also said federal officers continue nationwide operations targeting child predators, rapists and narcotics traffickers.

“Our law enforcement officers are on the frontlines arresting pedophiles, rapists, and drug traffickers,” Bis said. “As we observe National Crime Victims Week, DHS law enforcement is fighting for justice for victims of illegal alien crime and preventing more American citizens from being victimized.”

Below are five offenders highlighted by federal authorities:

Gherson Djorkaeff Gonzales Hernandez
 Gonzales Hernandez, a criminal illegal alien from Honduras, was convicted in Fairfax, Virginia, of three counts of possession of child pornography. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested him during enforcement actions targeting child exploitation offenders.

Eladio Laines
 Laines, a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala, was convicted in Chester, Pennsylvania, of sexual assault and unlawful restraint resulting in serious bodily injury. Federal officials said he was taken into custody during recent operations targeting violent offenders.

Pablo Blanco-Fortuna
 Blanco-Fortuna, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico, was convicted in Hidalgo County, Texas, of aggravated sexual assault and failure to register as a sex offender. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested him as part of ongoing nationwide enforcement actions.

Carlos Portillo-Nunez
 Portillo-Nunez, a criminal illegal alien from El Salvador, was convicted in Indio, California, of lewd or lascivious acts with a child. Authorities said he was among those arrested during operations targeting individuals convicted of crimes against minors.

Rocio Monterde-Santiago
 Monterde-Santiago, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico, was convicted in Seward County, Kansas, of felony attempted second-degree murder. Federal officials said the arrest was part of enforcement efforts focused on individuals with serious violent criminal histories.
