Raul Salinas Ochoa/Mexico/Larceny, Hit and Run

Federal immigration agents arrested Raul Salinas Ochoa, a Mexico national an illegal migrant, in Danbury, Connecticut, on charges of larceny, hit and run.

Local law enforcement filed the criminal complaint, and federal immigration authorities have since placed a detainer on Ochoa pending removal proceedings. The criminal case will move through the state court system, with the charges carrying penalties under state law. Separately, a federal immigration court will evaluate whether removal to Mexico is warranted — a determination made independently of any criminal verdict.

Following the arrest, Ochoa was transferred to federal immigration detention. Removal proceedings before a Department of Justice immigration judge are pending, with Mexico as the country of removal.
