Kaiyao Wei

Kaiyao Wei/China/Sexual Battery

by G. George | July 17, 2025

Kaiyao Wei, a criminal alien and citizen of China, was arrested by ICE Detroit officers immediately upon his release from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Wei, who entered the United States from China but remained unlawfully, had just completed a three-year prison sentence following a conviction for sexual battery in Franklin County, Ohio. This conviction, a felony offense, involved non-consensual sexual conduct and underscores the gravity of his criminal behavior.

Court records reveal that Wei’s conviction stemmed from a 2020 incident in which he was accused of engaging in unwanted sexual contact. Following his arrest and trial, he received a sentence of three years, which he served in the Ohio state prison system. While incarcerated, his case drew the attention of ICE, which issued a detainer ensuring he would be transferred directly to immigration custody upon release.

As an illegal alien with a conviction for a sexually violent crime, Wei is now subject to removal proceedings under U.S. immigration laws. He is currently detained in ICE custody while awaiting further hearings before an immigration judge. Given the seriousness of his offense, ICE has prioritized his removal to protect community safety.

Wei’s arrest reflects the intersection of criminal law and immigration enforcement, where individuals who commit serious crimes while unlawfully present face both criminal consequences and the prospect of removal from the United States.
