Jaime Ortiz-Guzman
Jaime Ortiz-Guzman/Mexico/Battery, OWI
On April 30, 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Chicago arrested 46-year-old Mexican national Jaime Ortiz-Guzman in Bloomington, Indiana. He was taken into custody following identification as a removable noncitizen with a documented criminal record. Ortiz-Guzman’s history includes multiple offenses: a conviction for battery, operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI), and driving without a valid license.
Ortiz-Guzman was among several individuals apprehended in a federal enforcement operation conducted in Bloomington that day. Following his arrest, Ortiz-Guzman was transported to a detention facility out of state. Court records indicate that he had an upcoming hearing scheduled in Monroe County for a pending OWI charge, but due to his transfer, the court was forced to reschedule the hearing. His case was reset for May 29.
The arrests conducted during this operation drew attention from local officials, including Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson, who expressed concern over the lack of communication from federal authorities. Despite that, ERO proceeded with custody transfers and continues to detain Ortiz-Guzman while immigration proceedings move forward.
Ortiz-Guzman’s history of prior convictions and repeated immigration violations places him under review by immigration courts for potential removal from the United States. He will remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of those proceedings.
