On May 15, 2025, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Buffalo removed Juan Velasquez, a 45-year-old Salvadoran national, from the United States to El Salvador. Velasquez had an extensive criminal history in New York, including multiple felony convictions related to the sexual abuse of minors. His removal followed his latest prison sentence and the reinstatement of a prior deportation order.

Velasquez originally entered the United States at an unknown time and location without inspection by immigration authorities. He was first convicted of statutory rape on April 14, 2004, in New York. Following that conviction, an immigration judge ordered his removal on July 20, 2004, and he was deported to El Salvador less than a month later, on August 13, 2004.

Despite that removal, Velasquez unlawfully reentered the United States. On September 21, 2015, he was convicted in Suffolk County Court of multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, aggravated sexual abuse, third-degree rape, false impersonation, and acting in a manner harmful to a child under 17. He was sentenced to nine years in prison and later received an additional one-year sentence for failing to comply with sex offender registry requirements.

After serving his sentence, Velasquez was arrested again and convicted on July 11, 2023, for a separate offense involving sexual assault. Upon his release from the New York State Department of Corrections on April 18, 2025, ICE officers arrested him and reinstated his original order of removal. He was held at the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility until his deportation was completed.
