Miguel Coello-Farfan/Peru/Sexual Misconduct With A Minor, Disorderly Conduct
ICE officers arrested 51-year-old Peruvian national Miguel Coello-Farfan in Stamford, Connecticut, during a targeted operation focusing on removable noncitizens with prior sexual offense histories.
Coello-Farfan is in the United States illegally and was originally charged with sexual assault of a minor in Connecticut, a serious allegation that led to his conviction before the case changed on appeal.
On appeal, the original sex assault of a minor conviction was overturned, and Coello-Farfan ultimately pleaded to lesser charges of a similar nature, reducing the formal level of the offense while preserving a record of sexual misconduct involving a minor. Those later convictions were subsequently pardoned by the State of Connecticut, but immigration authorities still view the underlying conduct and case history as significant public-safety concerns.
Coello-Farfan is currently in ICE custody pending the outcome of his immigration proceedings, where his unlawful presence and prior child-related case history factor into the government’s effort to remove him from the country.
