Oluwaseun Kassim/Nigeria/Aggravated Sexual Abuse

by G. George | July 03, 2025

Oluwaseun Kassim, a Nigerian national illegally present in the United States, was arrested by ICE Chicago officers following his conviction in Kankakee, Illinois, for aggravated sexual abuse. Kassim’s criminal conviction involves serious allegations of non-consensual sexual contact, constituting a violent felony offense under Illinois law. The nature of the crime, especially involving sexual violence, elevated him as a high-priority target for ICE enforcement actions.

Kassim had no lawful immigration status at the time of his arrest and had not filed any legitimate application for adjustment of status or relief from removal. His conviction for aggravated sexual abuse triggered mandatory immigration consequences under U.S. law, rendering him subject to removal proceedings. ICE located and arrested Kassim without incident during targeted enforcement operations in the greater Chicago area.

Upon apprehension, ICE officers confirmed Kassim’s prior criminal conviction and his immigration status violations. He is now being held in ICE custody pending removal proceedings before a federal immigration judge. Due to the severity of his offense and lack of legal authorization to remain in the country, Kassim is not eligible for bond or release.

ICE has prioritized this case for removal based on the aggravated felony nature of the conviction and the public safety risks associated with Kassim’s continued presence in the United States. He will remain detained throughout the course of immigration proceedings until he is formally removed from the country.
