Oumar Gueye/Mauritania/Robbery, Domestic Violence

Oumar Gueye, a 34-year-old citizen of Mauritania, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Detroit, operating out of the Columbus, Ohio office. Gueye was taken into custody based on his unlawful presence in the United States and a history of serious criminal offenses committed while residing in the country without legal status.

Gueye’s criminal history includes multiple convictions, including for domestic violence, aggravated menacing, and robbery. His domestic violence conviction involved a physical altercation with a family member that resulted in visible injuries. In a separate case, Gueye was found guilty of aggravated menacing after threatening an individual with harm while displaying a weapon. Additionally, his robbery conviction stemmed from a 2019 incident in which he forcibly stole personal property from a pedestrian in Columbus, for which he served time in a state correctional facility.

Following his release from local custody, ERO Columbus officers assumed jurisdiction and arrested Gueye. A detainer had previously been issued to ensure ICE could take him into custody before his release from criminal proceedings. Gueye is currently being held at the Butler County Jail in Ohio pending removal proceedings before an immigration judge. Due to his criminal convictions and lack of legal immigration status, ICE has prioritized his case for enforcement action.
