DHS busts Nebraska child trafficking ring

Federal agents have thwarted an alleged child trafficking ring operated by illegal immigrants in Nebraska.

According to the U.S Department of Homeland Security, 10 children and 17 others were rescued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement from the trafficking ring that operated out of Omaha-area motels and eyebrow salons.

The victims, both children and adults being sex trafficked, were found by ICE in “cockroach infested rooms and trapped in squalor with no basic sanitation” in motels where drug trafficking also took place.

“Our brave ICE law enforcement rescued these children and women who were being sexually exploited and trafficked,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. “President Trump and Secretary Noem will not allow children and women to be victims of these heinous human trafficking rings.”

“Our message to human traffickers is clear: we will dismantle your networks, and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. That’s a promise,” McLaughlin added.

ICE apprehended five illegal immigrants from India who allegedly ran the trafficking ring and seized $565,000 in cash and drugs.

They face charges for alleged conspiracy to engage in labor and sex trafficking, as well as harboring illegal aliens.

“ICE has placed immigration detainers on all five Indian illegal aliens arrested to ensure they are not released back into the community after completion of their federal criminal charges,” DHS said in a statement.

Another 14 illegal immigrants, some with criminal records, were also detained during ICE’s operation.

“There is no evil greater than the evil that seeks to trap, oppress, and exploit human beings for profit or pleasure,” U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska Lesley Woods said last week. “Where that evil exists, Nebraska law enforcement working together at the federal, state, and local levels, as occurred in this case, will seek it, find it, root it out, and ensure every rescued victim has an opportunity to obtain justice and freedom from their captors.”
