U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Chicago officers arrested a repeat criminal alien from the Dominican Republic last week, removing a dangerous individual with a long track record of violence and illegal activity from the community.
Miguel Angel Rodriguez-Fernandez, 42, was taken into custody on August 31. He has been previously convicted of several serious crimes, including second-degree assault with intent to cause serious physical injury, conspiracy to distribute and possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute, receiving stolen property, theft, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Rodriguez-Fernandez has also violated U.S. immigration law multiple times. He was previously deported and later reentered the country illegally, a federal offense that adds to his growing criminal record.
Federal authorities said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to locate and remove foreign nationals who pose a threat to public safety, especially those with violent or drug-related offenses. ICE officers apprehended Rodriguez-Fernandez in Chicago without incident. He is currently in custody awaiting removal proceedings.
According to ICE, the agency continues to prioritize the arrest of noncitizens with serious criminal histories who attempt to evade justice by illegally reentering the United States. Rodriguez-Fernandez’s record represents a combination of violent crime, drug offenses, and illegal reentry — the kind of offender ICE says it is focused on removing in order to safeguard communities across the country.
Rodriguez-Fernandez’s criminal history, spanning assault, theft, weapons charges, and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, places him among the higher-priority enforcement targets under current federal policy. ICE stated that individuals who reenter the country after deportation — especially with a record of violent or drug crimes — are subject to immediate arrest and removal.
His case remains under federal review, and he is expected to be deported following the completion of legal proceedings.
