ICE arrests previously deported illegal for trafficking meth in Georgia

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested a twice-deported illegal and convicted felon from Mexico in possession of almost 300 pounds of methamphetamine.

Pedro Guadarrama Loza was arrested last week in north Georgia after federal immigration officials conducted a “controlled delivery” operation at his residence. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Loza was deported in 2008 and 2017, and also has a previous felony drug trafficking conviction in DeKalb County.

Loza was apprehended after law enforcement intercepted a “suspicious shipment” of boxes going from Georgia to his Gainesville address which “contained a black industrial powder that tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia. As part of the undercover operation, the boxes were delivered to Loza’s address on August 12 and he was observed taking possession of them after delivery.

Federal agents then executed a search warrant and arrested Loza, who attempted to run, as well as seized the boxes that allegedly contained 277 pounds (or 126 kilograms) of the methamphetamine substance.

“This criminal illegal alien from Mexico was arrested with 126 kilograms of methamphetamine, has prior convictions for drug trafficking, and has already been deported from our country TWICE,” DHS spokesperson said in a statement. “Thanks to the hard work of the brave men and women of [Homeland Security Investigations], thx.com/…DGAnews/status/2088263331215774146is drug trafficker is off our streets and will soon be removed from our country. He will no longer be able to peddle his poison on American streets and endanger American lives.”

Loza, 38, faces federal charges of drug trafficking and illegal re-entry, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

“This illegal alien, convicted felon, and drug dealer allegedly attempted to coordinate the trafficking of a massive amount of methamphetamine in North Georgia,” U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg said. “Due to the skilled coordination of our law enforcement partners, a load of deadly drugs concealed in industrial powder was seized, and Loza now faces serious charges in federal court.”
