U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged an immigration detainer against a Honduran national charged with attempted murder after a stabbing attack during a public soccer game in Alabama.
According to a Department of Homeland Security announcement, Javier Lopez Tinoco, 20, was arrested by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office on July 29, 2025, ten days after he allegedly stabbed a victim three times in Summerdale before fleeing the scene. Local authorities also discovered Lopez Tinoco in possession of four small bags of cocaine at the time of his arrest.
ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations quickly issued an immigration detainer following the arrest to ensure Lopez Tinoco remains in custody through the duration of both criminal and removal proceedings.
Officials say Lopez Tinoco, an illegal alien from Honduras, had a prior arrest in 2024 for public intoxication. Following this latest arrest, ICE Assistant Secretary McLaughlin emphasized the agency’s commitment to keeping criminal aliens out of American neighborhoods.
“A man was nearly KILLED because this Honduran illegal alien decided to go on a stabbing spree,” said McLaughlin. “These are the types of criminal illegal aliens ICE is working to get off our streets and out of our country. ICE lodged a detainer to ensure this criminal will never be loose in American neighborhoods again. President Trump and Secretary Noem will continue to put the safety of Americans FIRST.”
Immigration detainers are tools used by ICE to request that local law enforcement agencies hold individuals in custody after their scheduled release, providing time for federal immigration officials to assume custody. These detainers are typically lodged against non-citizens arrested for serious or violent crimes.

DHS reiterated that ICE continues to work closely with local and state law enforcement across the country to identify, arrest, and remove individuals who pose a threat to public safety.
Lopez Tinoco remains in Baldwin County custody pending prosecution on attempted murder and narcotics charges, as well as immigration proceedings initiated by ICE.
