Illegal alien truck driver arrested after Indianapolis crash leaves man critically injured

Federal immigration authorities have arrested a truck driver who allegedly struck and critically injured a pedestrian in Indianapolis earlier this month, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Officials said the driver, identified as Sukhdev Singh, 25, is an Indian national who was in the United States unlawfully at the time of the incident. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took Singh into custody following the crash, and he remains in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings.

According to federal officials, the incident occurred on March 6 at approximately 6:30 p.m. near East Raymond Street and Interstate 65 in Indianapolis. Authorities said Singh was operating a semi-truck when the vehicle struck a pedestrian.

Indiana State Police responded to the scene and arrested Singh before contacting federal immigration authorities. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents later arrived and took custody of him that same evening.

The victim, identified by authorities as a U.S. citizen, was transported to a local hospital and remained in critical condition at the time of the Department of Homeland Security announcement.

Federal officials said Singh had been issued a non-domiciled commercial driver’s license by the state of New York on Jan. 2, 2025. A non-domiciled CDL allows individuals who do not reside permanently in a state to obtain a commercial license under certain circumstances.

Deputy Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis of the Department of Homeland Security said the case highlights coordination between state law enforcement and federal immigration authorities when individuals suspected of immigration violations are identified following criminal incidents.

“It is common sense: illegal aliens should not be operating 18-wheelers on American highways. We are praying this individual makes a full recovery,” Bis said in a statement released by the Department of Homeland Security.

The Department of Homeland Security also referenced a separate case announced in October involving another truck driver who was issued a commercial driver’s license by the state of New York before being arrested by federal immigration authorities. Officials said that the individual, identified as Anmol Anmol, was also a national of India and had entered the United States illegally in 2023 before being placed in removal proceedings.

Singh will remain in ICE custody while his immigration case moves forward. Authorities have not released additional details about the ongoing investigation into the crash.

Federal officials said the case remains under review by both immigration authorities and local law enforcement agencies.
