President Donald Trump’s approval rating on his handling of immigration remains positive, despite Democrats’ ongoing political stunts, nationwide protests and negative media coverage trying to sway public opinion.
A recent poll found that 49 percent of respondents approve of Trump’s handling of immigration, compared to 45 percent who disapprove, giving the president a net approval of +4 percent, according the weekly survey from the Economist/YouGov.
While Trump’s overall favorability is dropping, with only 43% of respondents having a favorable opinion of the president and his overall job performance, he’s holding steady on border security and immigration enforcement.
As Breitbart reported, opinions are sharply divided along party lines. For instance, 88% of Republicans approve of his handling of immigration, and just 10% disapprove. Meanwhile, 85% of Democrats disapprove of Trump’s handling of immigration, and only 12% approve. Independents are split — 46% approve of Trump’s handling of the issue compared to 44% who disapprove.
Similarly, when asked if Trump’s approach to immigration is too harsh, 89% of Democrats said it was too harsh, while 75% of Republicans said it was “about right.”
And ICE’s favorability is also nearly split, with 45% of respondents saying they have a favorable opinion of ICE and 43% saying they have an unfavorable opinion. That also shows the deep divide among party lines — 81% of Republicans have a favorable view of ICE, while 79% of Democrats hold an unfavorable view of ICE.
Democrats and Republicans don’t agree on much, but respondents did support deporting people who have committed violent crimes. According to the poll, 93% of Republicans, 83% of Democrats and 84% of Independents agree violent criminal illegals should be removed from the country.
The survey asked respondents a variety of questions about the economy, immigration, social issues and Trump’s overall job performance. The survey was conducted June 6-9, 2025, among 1,533 respondents. It has a +/- 3.5 percent margin of error.
The Economist/YouGov results align with a recent Morning Consult survey, showing that a majority of voters, 51%, approve of Trump’s handling of immigration.
Per Morning Consult: “Since the beginning of June, Trump’s net approval ratings on immigration and national security have been cut in half. Voters are still 7 percentage points more likely to approve than disapprove of his handling of immigration, but that’s down from a 12-point gap, and his 6-point net approval rating on national security is down from 13 points over the same time frame.”
Additionally, more than half of voters (53%) reported that they had seen, read or heard “a lot” about protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Los Angeles.
The widespread anti-ICE protests and biased media coverage over recent immigration raids has resulted in “the worst net buzz ratings for those issues since Trump took office,” according to Morning Consult.
The vast majority of mainstream media continues to ignore the fact that federal agents have executed federal search warrants for money laundering, drug trafficking, workforce enforcement and illegal workers using fraudulent documents.
ICE regularly posts updates of detainees with criminal records on its X account as well as ICE’s newsroom.
ICE has arrested several criminal illegal immigrants in the L.A. area. The Department of Homeland Security also issued several news releases, showcasing criminal histories fraught with multiple prior convictions. In another press release, DHS highlighted more of the illegal immigrants arrested on June 9 and 10 as part of their operations in Los Angeles.
“Murderers, pedophiles, and drug traffickers. These are the types of criminal illegal aliens that rioters are fighting to protect,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin emphasized.
Their criminal records included sexual battery, child molestation, domestic violence, burglary, second degree murder, assault with intent to commit rape, distribution of cocaine and heroin, domestic violence and more, Breitbart reported.
Attacks, doxing and verbal harassment against ICE have resulted in officers facing a 413% increase in assaults, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
In actuality, Hispanics and Latinos constitute a significant portion, roughly 50%, of U.S. Border Patrol and ICE agents. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., pointed out that statistic on FOX’s Jesse Watters Primetime earlier this week.
“The same Democrat politicians that are trying to say that ICE is all Anglo-Americans is completely false,” Paulina told Watters. “ICE is actually predominantly 50% Hispanic. So, really what they are doing is using these policies to race-bait Americans into thinking that this is somehow Hispanic versus White when in actuality it’s not. Hispanic Americans support these policies as well. And they are trying to effectively dox Hispanic ICE workers and Border Patrol agents, which is completely unacceptable.”
And new data—ironically analyzed by CNN—shows that foreign-born U.S. citizens favor the Republican Party on immigration policy over Democrats. According to CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten, legal immigrant voters have moved 40 points in favor of Republicans on immigration.
“Foreign-born voters have gone tremendously to the Right on this issue in 2024 and 2025 versus where they were in 2020,” Enten said.
