Federal immigration officials have secured a conviction against a previously deported Dominican national who unlawfully returned to the United States after multiple removals.
Santo Beato Aybar-Aybar, 49, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a removed alien on June 16 in federal court. According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he was living illegally in Lawrence, Massachusetts, at the time of his most recent arrest.
Aybar-Aybar has been deported from the U.S. three times, most recently in September 2021. At some point after that removal, he illegally reentered the country without being admitted, inspected, or paroled by immigration authorities.
“Santo Beato Aybar-Aybar repeatedly displayed a blatant disregard for U.S. immigration laws, and that resulted in his conviction for illegally reentering the country after deportation,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “We will not stand idly by as criminals subvert our immigration laws and take refuge in our neighborhoods. ICE Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing illegal alien offenders from our New England communities.”
Aybar-Aybar now faces up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000 at his sentencing, scheduled for September 11. Following any imposed sentence, he will again be subject to deportation.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts is prosecuting the case.
ICE officials say the arrest reflects their continued focus on removing criminal aliens and repeat immigration violators who pose a risk to public safety. ICE Boston has recently stepped up enforcement activity in the region, emphasizing cooperation with federal prosecutors to secure convictions and facilitate removals.
