Wyoming county’s ‘Truck Around and Find Out’ operation nabs 46 illegal truck drivers

A three-day operation in Wyoming’s Laramie County last week nabbed dozens of criminal arrests and illegal truck drivers.

Dubbed the “Truck Around and Find Out” operation, Laramie County Sheriff Brian Kozak said in a video update that last week’s operation resulted in 85 criminal arrests, including 46 criminal illegal immigration violations.

“Many of these folks are operating without commercial drivers licenses, unsafe trucks, bald tires, their trucking companies have been revoked or suspended and shouldn’t be operating at all, and so, we’re taking that serious, and we’re trying to help keep our roads safe in this county,” he said.

Kozak said the operation, which partnered with federal law enforcement, focused on “making sure that [truck drivers] are safe, and that the traffic that’s operating around them are following the laws as well.”

According to Kozak, the fatal crash rate in his county has lowered since his department has ramped up the operation.

Cowboy State Daily reported that one of the illegal drivers from Colorado had their license revoked 13 times.

“One significant (stop) was a driver who had been revoked out of Colorado 13 different times,” Kozak told the Daily. “He was still driving, and an illegal immigrant — and his company was also revoked.”

In November, “Operation Safe Haul” in conjunction with ICE and Wyoming Highway Patrol nabbed 40 illegal immigrant drivers.

The Trump administration has aggressively cracked down on illegal immigrant and foreign truck drivers, as well as the liberal states who have permitted them, following several fatal crashes last year.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy restricted the issuance of non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses and directed the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to audit states’ CDL programs.
